Hello,

I am trying to establish a "Family Tree" for this Parkhurst Prison "Exile" who arrived aboard the Thomas Arbuthnot at Williamstown on 04/05/1847.

There are numerous references to him in TROVE about his business etc. and I am pretty certain that they are for the correct Robert CREEK(E) as in a court case reported in The Age, page 5, dated 12/09/1866 in which he appears as the plaintiff, the defendant calls him "a liar, a low whelp, a Pentonvillian, and a convict":

                                    http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article160214044

I have also found his cemetery record at the following website entitled "Billion Graves":

http://billiongraves.com/pages/record/person/11994062#given_names=Robert&family_names=Creeke

He died 11/07/1914 (aged 86), his wife Fanny 26/05/1927 (aged 89) according to the tombstone, although who the Martha CREEK (note spelling) is, died 16/08/1899 (aged 89), I have no idea.......there seems no-one born in England in 1810 of that name.   Probate, incidentally, shows he left an Estate in excess of £4,000, a not inconsiderable amount in 1914.

If anyone can provide family details who his wife was, date of marriage, children etc. I would be extremely grateful.   He does, however, change his occupation frequently.   He was initially a Tailor, taught by his father, then a Carpenter taught at Parkhurst Prison, then a Bootmaker in Williamstown.

For the moment

NB:   I have since discovered that Martha CREEK is probably his mother-in-law and her daughter was Fanny CREEK and both arrived in Victoria from Cambridgeshire aboard the "Calliance" in 1855.

Was his wife's name Creek before she married Robert Creek if Martha was his mother in law?

Jennifer,

It appears so......she was born c1838 in Cambridge All Saints according to the 1851 England Census.   Her mother Martha CREEKE (sic) was a Widow and Lodging House Keeper.  One must assume, I suppose, that they were somehow related to Robert, although not enough hopefully to upset the Book of Common Prayer!!

It is amazing how the name varies between CREEK and CREEKE. ::)

Good Evening Everyone,

Thank you for all the information, I am very grateful.

My main task is to identify fully his Biography after he arrived in Australia, for instance, when did he marry Fanny and where?  Did they have any children?   I think not, as none are mentioned in Fanny's Will.

For the moment,
