My Grandad Pte Joseph Smith 5389008 served in the 2nd Battalion Ox & Bucks Light Infantry from 1940 being sent to Ballycastle Ireland. I know little about Ballycastle or where his regiment was based so I'm looking for information on his time in Ireland and if possible photographers of the Regiment of that time. In 1944 he was attached to 7th Battalion Ox & Bucks Light Infantry and fought in Anzio and the Bridgehead battle that wiped out the 7th Battalion
My Grandad was lucky to have servived but was wounded, taken prisoner and sent to Stalag 9c where he worked in a Hospital till he and his fellow POW'S where liberated in 1945
Once again I'm looking for any information on his where abouts once sent to Anzio Photos etc
We now have his service records but still need to build a bigger picture of his War Service

Thank you

Hi

Drop me a message if you'd like to obtain copies of his units war diaries. They normally run over 12 month periods.  I can also check to see if he completed a POW Liberation Questionnaire for you.

Cheers
Andy

Ballycastle, well known as a seaside town in County Antrim.

For a bit of possible help with the location in WW2, try here, it doesn't only deal with Belfast.
