What year is the entry in the parish record?  Not sure if you'll find deaths so far back, presuming that the entry is somewhere in the 1700s.

Hi skoosh

Where is Bathgate?
As I am not from Scotland and finding the areas confusing until I figure them out.
Will do a Google search for Bathgate.
Thank you Skoosh for another clue.

Hi Gilmorg

John Wood was deceased by 1704 from the marriage of his daughter to David Dundas.
So I'm assuming daughter Elizabeth Wood born 1670's to 1680's and he passed say from 1680's to 1704 is my time period.
I may not find anything but fingers crossed I do pity John didn't have such a popular name and surname of Wood!

Bathgate is in the Central Belt - a bit nearer to Edinburgh than it is to Glasgow.

Hi Mike in Cumbria

So the place Blacklaw could still be in the Edinburgh area.
Did a Google search Blacklaw farm and Blackgate is in West Lothian rather than Midlothian.
I may have to search for Elizabeth Woods baptism from may quite a few on Scots people.
I do wish my ancestor's left will or some of them would be much easier to follow the trail.
