Also strange place for a sailor to live as Beverley is inland. Perhaps they moved to Hull when he became a mariner.

Not really, there was a ship yard at Beverley, ships were launched sideways into the River Hull.

There was something called the Beverley Beck which ran into the River Hull.  Beverley Beck was tidal.

I will try to get details from both marriages to see if there are any clues.  John may have been married twice or different couple
