The message says "Yours sincerely". The studio was Lovell-Smith of Hastings, New Zealand. Hastings. A question arises here -  why have his photo taken in Hastings when he lived in Wellington?

It looks like he was sudenly two years younger in his life with his second wife.

All very confusing -  no wonder he is a mystery


The informant on my grandfather's death was his wife whom he had a relationship with from about 1924 althugh he did not marry until 1942.

I have the birth certificate of my father  and brother and his three  sisters- the informant was his mother Rosie. Calculated year of birth is 1881 from the records of three of the siblings and 1882 for one sister.

I do not have the certificate of his daughter from his second relationship - born in 1925, seventeen years before her parents married.

The Napier-Hastings Urban Area is a New Zealand urban area that covers the twin cities of Napier and Hastings.

Perhaps he went back to Hastings for family reasons? (If this is the same man)
Did he have children living there when they grew up?
Was the first wifes surname Easton?

That is very interesting -  I did not know of this. Yes, although his legal Name was Albert Clarence Lindale he was also known as Harry Lindale and Snowy Lindale.

His first wife was Rosie Crundwell, his second wife was Helen Easton. He had an illegitimate child in 1925 from Helen

Yes that is my grandfather acting for my father who was involved in bicycle vs car case where dad was injured.
