Bradenton Herald, The (FL) - Friday, August 10, 2012
Joan S. Benham, in her 95th year, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side August 2, 2012. Born in the United Kingdom, she worked in the London vaudeville theater and later helped with the World War II effort. She managed her own motel in upper New York State, later managing a chain of Howard Johnson motels. Joan was an auxiliary pink lady and directed local theater. Her interests in sewing, knitting and cooking served her well and she generously shared those talents with those around her. Joan retired to Bradenton with her husband, Donald C. Benham, who predeceased her. She enjoyed bridge, golf and mostly, cruising. She will be remembered for her flamboyant style. She is survived by two daughters (names omitted) & five grandchildren. She was also blessed to see and hold ten great grandchildren.
