Hi all,
Only just found this thread so I'm not sure if it's active, but I am also interested in the Phillips family. My great-great-grandmother Ann Maria Yardley, nee Walker, from Rugeley in Staffs married Edwin Henry Phillips, who was born in Hanbury in 1870 and was one of the sons of Joseph Phillips and Ann nee White, and the grandson of John and Hannah.
I've looked up the parish records for John and Hannah and am almost 100% certain that her name is Pountain rather than Fountain. I actually grew up not far from Hanbury and went to school with someone with the surname Pountain - probably a very local name.
One interesting thing about Edwin Phillips is that he seems to have been something of an inventor. He took out a patent for a hay and straw press in 1896, not long before marrying my great-great-grandmother.
Edwin and his wife had one daughter called Gladys May who never married. There's some evidence that she may have had a sweetheart who died in WWI like so many of that generation. So Edwin doesn't have any direct descendents by blood, but he acted like a father to my great-grandfather (his wife's son from her earlier marriage) so I consider him an adoptive ancestor! He seems to have been a lovely man from all accounts.
Happy to share further information with anyone who is still interested.
