I have just looked at the Australian War Memorial site and the 330,000 is the approximate number of Australian soldiers who served overseas during WW1

I did have a look at Cenotaph data base in NZ for men that fought in WW1, born in Hull and found just one Fred Middleton. It has a great photograph and his WW1 records are able to be read at Archways, from memory he was in France and was gassed. NZ newspaper report show Fred Middleton had no relatives in the city he died in

Thanks Joe...I will have a search and see if I can get some statistics...there was a good article in the Sunday Telegraph on 5th April showing the statistic for casualties in Gallipoli and I destroyed it during laminating  ::)
Carol
I found the link to that article;
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/keep-the-anzac-stories-alive-with-the-official-sunday-and-daily-telegraph-coin-collection/story-fni0cx12-1227299052884
I assume that 330,000 soldiers contained NZ chaps too.
Would be interesting to ask where they sourced their statistics and search further from that point.
If you are a contributor to the Daily Telegraph you could ask them where they got the statistics and if they advise a source you/we could explore it further.
Joe

Thanks for posting the link Joe...It's very helpful and I can use the details...I appreciate your input.

Hi Whiteout...I have found 67 pages of Anzacs from Hull on the Honouring Anzacs from HULL site...So far I have found 26 of them who lost their lives in Gallipoli.

Thanks so much for posting the very useful links...I will spend some time going through all the links that everyone has been so helpful in posting these for me.

That is a great article on FRED Middleton but he was born in Bradford...but I will still be able to use it to use it so thank you too for taking the time to post this useful info for me.

Hi Whiteout...I found the CWGC certificate for Fred Middleton and you were right...he was born in Hull...that wasn't made clear in the write up but his parents were from Bradford. Thanks very much for your time....you have found the first photograph for me of a Hull born Anzac who paid the ultimate price.
I really appreciate the time and trouble you took to find this for me.

Just bringing this back up as it is Anzac Day. Quietly remembering all those brave men and what they went through.
Attached is the front cover of a booklet that I have put together for a forthcoming exhibition in May.
Thanks for your help.
