Hi

I just want to let you all know I have 3 pages of the 48th Regiment (later known as Northampton Regiment) baptism registries in India. Dates from 1860 through to 1878.

I will be happy to give you details if your ancestor is on one of the 3 pages of registers I have here.

regards
Shannon

Army birth registrations for the period you are interested should be in the overseas section of the General Register Office index held at the Family Records Centre. You will find the images for the GRO overseas index on 1837online.

According to the history of the Lancashire Fusiliers (20th regiment of the Foot I think) the First Battalion was serving abroad in these places

1891.04 Ireland: Belfast
  1893 Curragh
  1896 Athlone
  1897 England: Preston
  1899 Malta
  1899 Crete
  1902 Gibraltar
  1905 Malta

The Second Battalion was in India

1888 Ahmednagar
  <1892> Poona
  <1897> Quetta
  1898 Egypt
  1898 Sudan
  1898 Crete
  1898 Malta
  1899.10 South Africa 11 Bde
  1902 England: Aldershot
  1904 Ireland: Fermoy

The Third Battalion only formed in 1898

1898.11 Malta
  1901 Barbados
  1903 South Africa

and the Fourth Battalion only formed in 1900

1900.02 Ireland
  1902 Curragh
  1904 Tipperary
