Liscoe/Lisco Family

Hello all..... been a while since I've worked on the Irish connection. Cjrc welcome to rootschat.

Sinnan and hallmark hello........still trying to trace the origin of the name. I've spent ages ploughing back through London parish registers for the earliest combination of the name. So far alternatives are Lythgo/e Lythgoue.....Lythgow ....and the same starting with Lis.

Maybe time to pull the paperwork out and have a play about with it. Many thanks for the links and the will that will tie a few names together.

In his will, Anthony bequeathed Mentrim House to his 'nephew' Robert Young Liscoe, of Columbus Platt County, Nebraska.... so if you can find out any clues as to the location, date etc of this Will maybe it holds further clues?


Too vague for me to even start looking for as I haven't a clue as to even What Century, let alone Decade it was.

An Anthony Liscoe Mentrim died May 16 1915 aged 90 years. (Irish Independent)
His lands (100 acres)appear in the paper for rent by the rep of A Liscoe for several years from 1915 to 1927.
There is land in Mentrim sold by Mrs Jane Liscoe in 1921  must be different land.
Mentrim House gets no results.

There is this marriage in 1881 in Platte Nebraska .
Mr Robert Y Lisco and Miss Mary J Sillery.
Groom's father William Lisco mother Martha Shields.
Brides father Nathaniel Sillery mother Isabella Shields.
Robert is 26 born in New York and Mary is 20 born in Ireland.

In 1880 Mary Sillery is with William & Martha as niece.
Robert and Mary J have a son Robert Young Lisco jnr in 1899.

Have you found any link for your lot ever being in Ireland??

Hi hallmark......simple answer is no. It was finding Robert Young Lisco's father as born in England on the census that first led down this path.

My line in London is from the early 1700's before that the spelling changes so I'm still sorting.
There is the name Lisgo in the North of England and there is a Liscoe farm at Out Rawcliff in Lancashire..
Still a work in progress.
