Restoration and Information please for my Great grandfather Edward Mitchell

Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to restore and possibly date a photograph of my 2x great grandfather Edward Mitchell born 1875 in St. Pancras, London. He is wearing a Military uniform and I know that in 1918 he was out in India as I have another picture with him standing outside with a hat under his arm which I have included. I cannot find any record of him being in the Military and if anyone is able to tell me what regiment he may have been in then I would be grateful as it would really help me narrow my search down.
