Guthrey to Guthrie; Virginia

I have done tons of family research and found out that my 8th great grandfather came to America in the late 1600's or early 1700's, he settled in southern Virgina (United States). He came from Forfarshire, Scotland.
   I would like to follow my family history further back...is it possible to do so if I have his name? I have it at home and would be so thankful for any help. I would like to know if my direct family had anything to do with the Guthrie Castle in Angus and also where we came from before Scotland.

Iwonder if, in your research into the Guthrie family you had come across an ancestor of mine William gall who married a Jean Guthrie in Perth 21/12/1797?

Hi Donald, I am tracing GUTHRIEs in the US and have gone back four generations to Enoch Wiley GUTHRIE born 22 Sept 1822 in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, but am stuck and cannot go back any further. If you are able to tell me if you have him in your Guthries and know his parent/s I would be most grateful. Regards, Irene

I also have Guthries from Dundee, Angus  in my family. My grandmother was a Guthrie.

My Guthrie names are:

Annie Colquhoun Guthrie dob 30/12/1887
Her father - William Stabbles Guthrie dob 13/8/1862
Her Grandfather - John Guthrie dob c1827
Her G.G. Grandfather - John Guthrie dob c 1799

Dear all, it would interest you to read about the Witches of Forfar and Jean Guthrie. (just type in 'Witches of Forfar'

All took place in the middle 1600s and I am linked to Janet Bertie another on of the witches.
