The following is a transcription:

Erected to the memory of John Bannerman late farmer in Hatton d. 17 Aug. 1823 aged 89; his spouse Elizabeth Robb d. 27 May 1825 aged 51. Their son James d. 21 July 1825 aged 18.

Note be very careful with inscriptions such as this.
Tombstones that state "Erected to the memory" do not always mean that the person (persons) mentioned are actually buried in the grave.
Such tombstones are often set above the grave of one or more of those mentioned but others may be mentioned simply to commemorate them.

Cheers
Guy

Hello,
That is very true, I have read that .    I just was given a link from another Genealogist and it said Rathen was very cheap to bury relatives in those days and people would bring the dead from other parishes .
On another note with john Bannermans birth  being much earlier , It makes me wonder if there were previous wives and children about ???

                                                                               Take care  Melanie
