Family tree
« on: Wednesday 18 March 15 21:30 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone on here can help me - I am doing my family tree at the moment and stuck on one of my ancestors - Her name was Mary Johnston (Nee Salmon) She was born 1913 - Her husband Samuel died in the war 1944 - she was killed in a motorcycle accident 1947 age 33 on the way to the RAI in Paisley though I dont know why she was going there. Their address was 4 Myrtle Street though I cant find any trace of it. I am trying to find out where that was - and if anyone would know what newspaper if any the accident would have appeared in. also if they had any children. Her sister Henrietta Riddell (Nee Salmon) 10 Lumsden Street signed the death certificate.

There was an RCA on death certificate on 29th September 1947 fatal accident enquiry - Stating as result of the accident after being thrown from motorcycle she fractured her skull.  I am finding it hard to upload documents onto this sight it keeps saying file is to big!

Myrtle Street was in the North of the City just off of 431 St Georges Road.

It was just north of North Woodside Road which crossed St Georges Road and was on the left hand side as you moved Northwards. If you look at Google street view there is a red roofed building at the location.

Samuel Johnston and Mary Salmon were married in 1934. You can view a copy of their marriage certificate at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk at modest cost.

After 1929, mothers' maiden surnames are shown in the SP index, and obviously any children would have been born by 1945, so it would be the work of just a few minutes to check the SP indexes for children.

However you cannot view births less than 100 years ago online, so you would either need to go the Scotland's People Centre, or find someone who is going there and would be willing to spend a few minutes checking the indexes for possible children.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi - Thanks for that.  I already have both their birth certificates, marriage and death certificates. I even know her parents names and that she had a sister and brother William and Henrietta.  I also know her parents names, but I am trying to find out if there is any newspaper article on the accident and if they had any children.  Samuel was my granny's wee brother but he was killed in India 1944.  It was sad that she died three years later in such tragic circumstances.  :-\
