Family Tree Maker is great, it will link directly to ancestry.co.uk. You can download everything and when times get better it will update again. If you look on amazon for about £30 you get the software and 6 months free ancestry. I got one for Christmas.
hope things go well for you.

I agree about FTM - a great bargain as not only do you get the programme to use on your computer, you also get the 6 months free Ancestry, so it works out far cheaper than buying a subscription. In fact I know some people who just buy a new FTM every few months!

If you still want to research online you can always log on at the local library for free.

See I just use the shapes to make boxes I can put names and dates into.
You can insert photos and use the line option from shapes to draw lines.
Turn off the grid and you get a plain white background.
Takes a little pratice but it's fun and no limit on size.

My apologies for this - but why have you relied solely on Ancestry to record your family history?  :-\  The majority of us have our records stored in other (even various) areas so that we are covered for all (well almost) circumstances.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
