Well Blythian,
     If you were driving past Regents Terrace last night,  or rather you dreamt you were, then your dream was true . There actually was a Regents Terrace in 1911.
     I found a family there on the census.

Just to add, Regent Terrace appears to have been off Thompson St  and Goshen St,
     I shall take a toddle down that way tomorrow or Saturday, and snoop around ...

Ahh yes,  as a kid spent many a Saturday morning at the Theatre Royal.  Up in the gallery too!

There looks like there is a C at the end, possibly going around a corner - could it have been the Regent Cafe?

Re the Regent Terrace.
                              Well spotted  Blythian,  there isin't much wrong with your eyes as there is indeed two stone plaques on those houses you past displaying  "Regent Tce".  there are  only 4 houses in between the plaques,
   but on the 1911 census there were many more, However the whole road is now Hodgsons Road, being changed in memory of the Hodgson mill owner.
   I know this does not change the question of the Carnival sign "Regent" but found it very interesting indeed, as did my better half!

My vote is for an Easter parade.  Bunnies, lambs, palm fronds, all the kids wearing white or light colors and pretty dressed up.

 I'd wondered about that too Janis, trouble is which year was it !
    Also more importantly were about in Regent Street was the pic taken.
     I remember when a child we had some great carnivals for the Miners Picnic days.
       That was when Blyth was in its hay -days.

Do you remember the Pineapple Inn that used to be on Regent St. ? corner Bowes St.?  My friend's Dad was publican there. I just looked on Google maps and it seems to have gone now.
