When I saw this heading, it attracted my attention. It's not one of mine, but in East Lancs I'd seen it spelled "Pythean". I'd had the idea it was a name with loads of variant spellings, and may have had Cornish connections?
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)
