William Baldwin ,Lea Hall Colliery Disaster 6 March 1968
« on: Monday 09 March 15 18:20 GMT (UK) »
I am helping a friend with her Family Tree.  Her Grandfather was William Baldwin b, 1922 who died in an Explosion at the Lea Hall Colliery on 6 March 1968.
William was married to Gwendoline Rose Heath in 1946 in Cannock,Staffordshire. I am trying to find out the names of Williams Parents or Siblings . Does anyone have these names in their Family Tree.
Regards
Agnes

Hi

Have you looked up his birth on freebmd which will give you his mothers maiden name?

www.freebmd.org.uk

You can then use that info and look for his parents marriage on freebmd which will give his fathers name

It's quite possible his parents were born before 1911 so you can then use the 1911 census to research backwards

Assuming William was born in the area of the mine the nearest birth was registered at Cannock Q4/1921, mothers maiden name WESTWOOD

JOHN BALDWIN married  SARAH JANE WESTWOOD, there Q2/1902. The only one in the area.

They are on the 1911 census with their children but further research would be required.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Thank you CaroleW, Kilwinning and Weste for all your help. My friend is delighted with all the info on her Grandads family.
I have located John Baldwin and Sarah Jane Westwood's marriage on Freereg.
I also found the family on the 1911 Census on Ancestry.co.uk .
Kind  Regards
Agnes

Word of warning if you do anything on the westwood side. There are at least 3 different lines of westwoods in the area and nearby and there has been cousins marrying in each and marriage across the different lines , no common links other than that so far. Sarah jane i don't think is one of mine, my sister in law was a westwood before she married my brother and i know of a line which had been in great wyrley before my lot moved from bilston. If you come across chase terrace ones , probably one of my sister in laws! Sister and law and myself have relatives buried in st james norton canes.
