Have just had a look at google map at 68 School Lane. Thanks so much for clearing that up. There seem to be " plaques" on some of the other houses too.

No: 70..... Herberts half brother. His father had previously been married to Annie (nee SMITH) and had at least 8 children.

Will revise search on Salem Cottages

Crook(ed) Log was towards the bottom of the hill, nearing Bushey Arches.

I seem to remember (or should that be  " I have appeared to have forgotten"     )
Salem being mentioned in an article with Crook Log.

Bushey Museum, Herts-Geneology, etc., etc..

Hi to all those who have helped with this.

Salem Cottages have now been identified. I contacted the Local Resources centre at Bushey Museum and received the following reply;-

"They were on Sparrows Herne rather than Clay Hill – on the south side, about halfway between the war memorial on the corner of School Lane and the old police station.   There were eight cottages, presumably a terrace, and like the Black Cottages the other side of the police station, I would imagine they were pretty basic.   They were demolished in about 1960 and replaced by a modern block of flats.  "

Have checked Google maps and pinpointed the place.

Both mysteries solved. Now - time to move onto the next item on the genealogy "to do" list.

I have only just registered with the site and I am trying to trace my Grandfather.  He was Herbert Henry Stone lived in Bushey !  He married Daisy Amelia Dobson.  They had 5 children and youngest is my mother, she will be 90 this year.  I do not know much about him , other than he was in the army, so it was interesting to read your information. He died in Watford hospital 1963.  What where his parents names ? Did he have siblings ? I believe the name Wells was somewhere in his family tree. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Just asking, to save time etc... ( I realise that you say "don't know much" )

How old was he when he died? Where? I cannot match 1963.

There is a potential birth 1883/Northampton (making him 10yrs older than Daisy? )

Hi Thanks for the post - I have quite a bit of information on Herbert Henry Stone, the Wells and Stone connection. Also a photograph which was sent to me by a Dobson relation/link to the family. Will send by private message. It is a complicated family tree with various intermarriages.

I have been tracing my family tree -on and off - for the last 30 years, but am only just getting back to doing more research.
