The New York City marriage index has a marriage for Agnes Gallagher & Torleif Christopherson on 5 Jul. 1930 in Manhattan.  You can check this index (and others) for free at www.italiangen.org.  The marriage certificate should have his parents' names listed, but you might need to either purchase it or look it up on microfilm at a Family History Center.

Hi shelleyesq and thank you for that piece of information— Great news! I'm saving the Italiangen.org to my favorites. That is my grandmother and grandfather there I'm sure because that's the date they gave as their marriage date on other official documents that I have seen. You're right, the marriage certificate should have his parents' names listed. Thank you so much again! that should hopefully tell me if he was a Norwegian blood or if his father was equally+- as Swedish as his mother.

Please share your findings on here with us. This is a very intriguing story.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

On Ancestry there is a passport application in 1917 of a Karl Torleif Christofferson born 21 June 1902. His father is written as Thorwald. Karl Torleif was born in Oslo. There is also a photo of him. I wonder if this is him.
The birth date is the same.

Ian

Hi Ian, thanks for looking. Looks like you hit the jackpot there because that's the right birthday, according to his wife's later Petition for Naturalization(1942). Since the information from the census of 1920 also indicates he was born in 1902 and further indicates that he entered the country in 1917, I'd say — another match. Thank you again and again; I can't get on Ancestry without a membership as I used my free opportunity about a year ago. It's wonderful how people here cooperate and assist. just wonderful.  Phil

This appears to be a match for Carl (Karl on the passport application) on the passenger list - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JJCR-3YF

Hi Ian, If you use Dropbox we can easily exchange files like that. Otherwise, I don't know how I'll ever see the picture. My mother would be extremely interested in seeing her father's picture (granted, from a younger day) after 75 years! Any ideas how I can see this beyond subscribing to Ancestry?

Looking into it a bit further, Thorwald seems like a pretty Swedish name:

There is also Thorwald's passport application with photo on Ancestry. Now you have 2 new photos for the collection.
