Vintage Niagara Falls
« on: Monday 23 February 15 23:35 GMT (UK) »
I acquired this photo fairly recently, I do have tons of vintage photos of Niagara Falls, but I liked this one because of the boardwalk, just wish there were people on it...  But it sure looks like a risky walk...  :o

I have tried to research exactly what this boardwalk was and have come to no firm conclusions, did find this link to the White Water Walk, but not sure if it's the same thing...  http://www.niagaraparks.com/niagara-falls-attractions/white-water-walk-history.html  And I think this was taken from the American side of Niagara Falls...

The photo is mounted in a nice frame with glass front, completely sealed in at the back with paper, so I really don't want to open up the frame, I scanned this including the frame...  The back of the frame does say American side, photographer name looks like Jean Erskine, which could simply be a family member or perhaps a professional photographer?  ???

That sounds close, never seen that link before, she may have never become very famous to be mentioned much...

So it's still in use today, I searched around and never found any other photos like it...  A little disappointed, although I'm pretty sure my photo is quite old...  I think...

They have replace the wood over the years as it rots , so your photo could still be old

Are my eyes deceiving me, or are there people standing along the top between the falls?  Maybe a sharper close up of that area may reveal the clothes they are wearing for a guess at the era.  I think I can see a lady in a long light coloured dress (or I may need a visit to the opticians  ;D )

I do know that at one time that area between the falls was open to the public, I think I've heard that it's closed now...  There might be people up there, but so distant hard to pick out much detail...  Here's my full-size scan over at Flickr, just follow the link...  https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7366/16400112415_fc06a8c271_o.jpg

Here is a 1926 (verified date) photo of the same island from above the falls, it was called Luna Island, someone told me that Luna Island was removed in the 1960's, another found photo, but from a different source then the first photo I posted...
