Joseph Clarke Blaby Leicestershire.
« on: Saturday 21 February 15 22:45 GMT (UK) »
Think my 6th ggfather was Joseph Clarke b 1730 in Blably.

Have the Parish Records for both Blaby and Aystone.  He married Elizabeth Allen in 1758 in Aylestone but could not find him christened there.

From the Family Search by LDS
Joseph Clark
Christening Date:    12 Feb 1730
Christening Place:    BLABY,LEICESTER,ENGLAND
Father's Name:    Joseph Clark
Mother's Name:    Mary
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: C04654-1 ,

This is only 2 miles from Aylestone.

But now the things get a bit tricky.  Looking at the Parish Records from the http://leicestershire.webs.com/ the entry is

12 Feb 1730   Joseph Clark.    Mother Widow Clark  .... Notes She is a widow.

But cannot find another christening on the Blaby PR for the LDS christening so where did they get it from?

So cannot understand why there is 2 christening for the same person.

So looked for a death for Joseph Clarke father Joseph Clarke  and found one that said died 9th Jun 1730.  But think this is wrong and should say 9th Jan 1730.  If so this ties in but again why 2 christening .  Cannot find the death on the LDS site.    So really need to look at the Parish Record for his death.

Would like to know what others think of my findings and if it is possible that these 2 christenings are for the same person. And if so  why can I not find the LDS one?
Thanks

Saint Andrew's parish church in the village of Aylestone was  where I was baptised.

With familysearch there are often double entries or more, click on the batch numbers and check exactly where their information is gleened from as it can be donated data/IGI/Collections and spurious

Asked the Leicester shire Parish Records office to look up Joseph Clarke.  This is what they have come back with

Aylestone Parish Register (DE3437/2)

James Cartwright the Natural son of Ann Clark was baptized September 10, 1780

Joseph Clarke was buried on June 9, 1730

Blaby Parish Register (DE3352/1)

Joseph son of Widow Clarke bap. Feb 12th 1730

So Joseph Clarke bur in Jun 1730 is not the son of Joseph Clarke boarn Feb 1730 so back to the drawing board.  So who was Widow Clarke.  His father had to have died between Jun 1729 and Feb 1730 but he's not in Blably

I think you mean that the Joseph Clark b Jun 1730 is not the FATHER of the one bapt Jan 1730 --- don't you?

Why do you think his father of Joseph jnr died in 1729-1730? Remember that Widow Clark may have been widowed some time previously, and fallen pregnant to a different man, meaning that Joseph's father may never be found. It might be worthwhile looking at the bastardy records.

Who is Widow Clark? I think you'd have to go through the original PRs (ie not the Family Search site, it's good for a pointer but also full of inaccuracies) with a fine toothcomb. Was there a male Clark who married then died? A Clark couple who were having babies then a male Clark death and maybe a gap before Widow Clark had another child? Any mention of a remarriage of a Widow Clark? Her burial?

None of this is going to be easy or quick (depending on the state of the PRs in the early 1700s; some are easy to read, some of this era are only semilegible). Bearing in mind that Widow Clarke could have been any age up to her mid40s when Joseph was born, you'd be looking back to about 1700 for any possible marriage and earlier children.

Hi  iluleah  I had thought of that but usually if they die in infancy the say died in infancy or usually there parents names arev listed.  But that is only a probability.
Hi Annie65115  I had thought that she might have  been a widow for awhile .  Where could I look at the  bastardy records?

I have the PR for Aylestone and Blaby and also Leicester project CD31 and can find nothing there up to now.  The other possibility is paying for a one named surname of all Clark/e that the http://leicestershire.webs.com/ have completed and see if anything comes up there.
Have looked who got married in Aylestone and Blaby Cane up with John Clark married Elizabeth Morton 2/5/1720 in Aylestone g from Little Glen b from Blaby, but cannot find any children after that date to them .  Also William Clarke married Jane Blyth 18/10/1720 in Blaby but they chr a child in Aylstone in 9/1730 so William was not dead. .  Maybe I have missed them so going to look over them again.

Regarding deaths of Clark/e in 1729-30  There is a Jason Clark in Jan 1729 but if so that was not Joseph father
There is a John Clarke bur 4/11/1729  from little glen  ... This could be him .  but there was a John Clarke chr in 1728 to Thomas & Mary.... But the burial again did not say infant or mention his parents name ... So was he an adult?   So confusing
