« on: Thursday 19 February 15 09:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I wonder if someone could help, my John Symonds married a Hannah he was born abt 1775 they had frederick born 1817 redmarley, Ann born 1824, Peter born in redmarley 1828, elizabeth 1834 born in newent and charlotte born 1837 in newent...The one census in 1841 says hannah was born 1801 gloucestershire, she is in the census with John and children ann, peter, elizabeth and charlotte, but the 1851 census it says she was born 1783, she is in the this census with just ann and charlotte, under being ann's mother. Both census being in newent.  How can there be so much age difference with the census, not sure of her last name?
thanks in advance

John Symonds married Hannah Haumbler 20 Jan 1817 Dymock, Gloucestershire

1841 Hannah, age 40, not born in county. In 1851 Hannah now a widow born Redmarley, Worcestershire. The age is transcribed as 68 but the image has been covered by a X. I think it could be 58 therefore born 1793.

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Just to add to the previous post - according to Gloucestershire Marriage Index, John was a widower when he married Hannah.

Witnesses to the marriage were - Thos. Barnes and Winifred Bayley.

I cannot see an earlier marriage fro John in Gloucestershire.

Hello With regard to the initial message regarding John Symonds, i've tried putting a message on here for the originator as I believe we must be related.
My name is Ken Williams and my great great great grandparents would have been John and Hannah .  Symonds, Their daughter Ann Symonds is shown as being aged 17 on the 1841 census and she is my great great grandmother.
On Friday i received a copy of he marriage certificate and Ann married Henry Loveridge on the 27th November 1842 at the Parish Church Newent.. Henry Loveridge's father is not indicted on the Marriage Cert we do know that his mother was Elizabeth Loveridge born Red Marley. Henry Loveridge was Christened at Newent on March 7th 1818. Henry and Hannah had three children Rosetta, William and Mary Ann. William was born circa 1845 and he was my great grandfather. We have twi enigmas
1) Can noit find a marriage for Henry's mother Elizabeth Loveridge born 1772 we think he might have been  illigitimate
2) We have searched for a death for Henry but can not locate one the 1851 census shows  Elizabeth as being indexed a widow and living withn her daughter in law.
Can anyone enlighten us onour two enigmas and perhaps help us to contact the person who initially enquired about John Symonds.
Very best
Ken Williams

Henry Loveridge was illegitimate bap. son of Elizabeth Loveridge  7 March 1818 Newent. (Privately)

Elizabeth describing herself as a widow on the census draw your own conclusions.

GRO Index

Rosetta Loveridge reg 1843 Newent, Sept quarter, vol 11 page 352 mother's maiden name Lymond  - should be Symond - correction sent.

Male Loveridge reg 1845.Newent, September quarter vol 11 page 354 mother's maiden name Symond  (this would be William)

Mary Ann Loveridge I cannot find a registration for.
-----------------
The one in 1846 had mother's maiden name Locke so that is eliminated.
