Mary Emily Thomas - What am I missing ....?
« on: Tuesday 17 February 15 15:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I have found the marriage of Mary Emily Thomas in Farnborough on 12th Oct 1910 to Charles Biggin.  Her father is given as Francis Thomas, Army Pensioner.  I also have her death in Sep Q 1971. This gives her birth date as 26 March 1882.  Knowing that she was born in India I was able to find her birth (date matches death info exactly) in Trimulgherry India on 26 March 1882, but parents are Henry and Emma Thomas. Henry is a Sergeant in the RHA.

I found the marriage of a Henry Thomas and Emma Baldock in 1881 in Sailkot (then Pakistan).  The details continue to fit everywhere except for the father's name. Francis v Henry.  I have them on the 1901 census and father is Francis. Apparently the house they retired to was named Sialkot, further confirming this as the right couple.

I must be missing something.  I know people changed/used different names but I cannot find Henry outside of the birth and marriage details.

A fresh pair of eyes may see what I am now blinded to.
Thanks.

Maybe he was Henry Francis or Francis Henry at birth?  Have you got him before marriage at all or a birthplace for him?

1901 shows Francis b Charlinch Somerset 1848

Going back to the 1851 her father is Francis aged 4 b Charlinch Somerset - parents James & Mary

Probably just a wrong entry on the birth cert

I have got the person I believe to be him on earlier census, always as Francis.  He was born in Charlinch in Somerset  in about 1847.  No Francis Henry born around then but there is one Henry and one Francis!

Odd that both her birth and his marriage used Henry.

Don't know why it would be so but does he only use Henry for when he is abroad ie for his military career :-\

Francis seems to be the norm as a boy and when he comes back to England.
