Can anyone decipher what the engraved name on this reads???

Hi guy's,
We are researching a WW2 Bomber crash with surviving family member's and one of the items found was this. Can anyone decipher what the name reads that was engraved in it?????

My technique is not up to this but if you can turn it into a black and white image then reverse so scratches are white and background is black you might have a chance.

The other old fashioned way is to hold it and angle it slightly to the light then read out the letters you see to someone who writes it down. Aim being to read what you see not what your brain is telling you is seen   which may be two different things.

Have played around with this - will attach two versions, but it still doesn't tell me much.  Can't figure out even where the engraving is!  If anyone else can do a decent b/w or negative version - please ignore this poor effort.

It may not be a name. It might be special instructions. My uncle on Crete scratched a rough outline of the island on his cigarette case so he knew where to escape to.

It does appear to be a name.. we can see a W then H or T then P?? Shan, how do you reverse the pic? I am aware of changing it to invert but..?

I could not improve the image but have tried using a dark layer and and inverted layer and this is my best guess so far, sorry it does not make any sense  ???

Would love to know more about your crash site, is it in this country?
