I think the marriage at the cathedral-Is a distinct possibility. (the cathedral was the parish church in those days for vast areas of greater Manchester something to do with church fees) though not Cheshire.
You are right there are quite a few Cheshire registers not on line at the moment.
It seems likely that either Shackleton as a merchant travelled around, or that Sophia went to work in some capacity in that location,--- if it is the same female.
I was trying to locate Sophia, because I cannot find the burial of her father Richard Massey bap at Rostherne in 1736, and a farmer at Ollerton until at least 1775. when his wife died, and is buried at Knutsford,he was then 40.
I thought the two, father & daughter might be together somewhere. The other family members are buried at St Johns, Knutsford.
