Gilling Family & Burn Family, Durham
« on: Saturday 07 February 15 11:37 GMT (UK) »
Anthony Burn left a will in 1756, he mentioned 2 brothers-in-law Thomas Watson who had married his sister Elizabeth, and George Gilling, I need to know who married into the Gilling family, Anthony left no money to a wife or children, perhaps they died, or maybe another sibling married a Gilling.
the address given for the Gilling's was Mr Archers Lee, Durham, I have never heard of it.

George & Unknown had 4 children at the time of the will, Thomas, Sarah, Margaret, Jane.

Anthony had another brother John who died in 1755, Anthony left money to his two children John & Thomas.
If anyone can give me some information about who married into the Gilling family, or if Anthony had any more siblings it would be very much appreciated.

Hi
I'm assuming Anthony came from Billingham and was the son of another Anthony.
John Burn 24.10.1710
Anthony 20.11.1712
Lucy 30.12.1714
Jane 16.5.1723 and or
Elizabeth 20.4.1693
John 6.7.1686
Anthony 3.4.1684

So the possible sisters who could have married George Gilling are Lucy or Jane but of course if Anthony's wife was a Miss Gilling then it could be her brother.
Sorry but I can't find a marriage.

Yes I have a list of the Burn family at Billingham, births, deaths & marriages, most of these are index records, I will be going back to Durham Records office to look at the Billingham micro film records, to see if I can get any more information.

Thomas Watson married Elizabeth at Easington.
They lived at Westerton, where Anthony made his will, I think they died at Coundon, Anthony was buried at Easington, his abode was Horden.

There is a marriage in Easington 28 Apr 1744 between George GILLEY and Jane BURNE that might be worth looking into further.  Also listed in Boyds.

Looks like it could be the one based on the children you've listed:

Thomas Gilley bap 27 Dec 1745 Easington s/o George & Jane
Sarah Gilley 24 Jan 1748 Easington d/o George & Jane
Margaret Gilley 1 July 1750 Easington d/o George & Jane

Haven't found Jane yet but will keep looking.

No joy on her baptism so far but this is quite probably her marriage:

19 Feb 1776 Easington, Jane Gilley & John Burdess

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NLCY-6T1

Burdess is another name you may find spelt various ways.  I have it in my tree for a branch that trace back to Seamer, N Yorks (as Bourdas) & were possibly Huguenots.

Thanks again, I checked on the Family search site after your first message, it looks good, I will look for Jane on the Easington micro film.
