service records experience please

Can anybody please give me some knowledge or experience s they have had when ordering ww2 service records.

Basically I sent off paperwork for my grandads records in early December 2014, and 2 weeks ago received the letter offering to refund my money, due to long wait , due to serving welfare problems. I have no problem with this, and an quite prepared to wait my turn. ( even if it is maybe 12 months )

 I have now noticed my check, for research payment, has been cashed yesterday.

I am I getting my hopes up that, the process has started, and the records will arrive shortly, or I am  just at the start of a long wait.

From my own personal experience it is a LONG wait, and you just have to be patient.

It's not always a long wait. In my case it was just over 4 weeks. I've heard other people report that they've had a letter , warning of a long wait , only to receive the file a couple of weeks later. I've not heard of anyone being offered a refund before.

Hi, my wife's Aunt sent off for her late husband's, sent the forms off and received all of his service records etc within a fortnight 
I think she was possibly one of the lucky ones.

Hi Mark....If they have cashed your cheque the records will be with you very soon!

I ordered my Dad's service records early December and like you was offered a refund because of a long wait. About three days later the records turned up and my cheque has now been cleared.

So it appears that they are keeping pace with applications at the moment.

The letter is pretty standard - everyone gets one. They are worth the wait IMO. That wait can be just a couple of months or up to 9 months. There seems to be no logic in the difference in time some take to receive a copy over others.

Maybe they give some sort of priority to wives/husbands of those in WW2 as they are elderly 
My mother applied for hers and her late husbands and they were very quick.

I had hoped that with my cheque being cleared, that the records might be done and winging it's way to me ( like Polly50  has said ) but I'll just have to wait in hope and see.
I'll post again when I've got anymore updates.

Received today ( Friday )
Seems if cheque cleared then the records are on the way. Only 2 months so not bad at all
