William WALKER Old Monkland about 1805-1831?

Hi everyone and happy searching to us all!

I started a search a while back and received some great information from a member of this site on one part of my William Walker and Margaret Walker (Duff) mystery.

Here is all I know with certainty:
William Walker married Margaret Duff who in 1831 gave birth to Margaret Walker (Martin Kennedy)

It appears William either died or for some reason left, as Margaret Duff remarried to a Hugh Martin about 1832 and this is shown on the 1841 Census.

William and Margaret are listed on a US death certificate for Margaret Martin Walker Kennedy (Daughter of William and Margaret) my ggg grandmother. Margaret immigrated to the US in 1868 with her husband and 8 children.

I believe that William may have worked in the iron works (Calderbank) and lived in Old Monkland/Airdrie/Stonehouse Lanark area but not certain.

Any help with William Walker (Born about 1805 and died about 1831) would be greatly appreciated. Census records, birth, baptism...others searching etc

Have you found a baptism for Margaret Walker  b 1831 or any marriage for her parents?

Her mother married Hugh Martin in 1831 using the name of Margaret Duff rather than a previous married name of Walker.

It's possible that Margaret Duff was never married to the father of her child.

Someone on this site provided me the marriage information of Margaret Duff and Hugh Martin (1831) and also that Margaret Duff's parents were Jean (Jane?) Thompson and James Duff M 11 Nov 1803 by Dr. William Taylor in Glasgow. I do not have any other information on them and do not have a baptism for Margaret Walker.

William Walker is the mystery for me and I suppose it is possible they never married. I found a baptism listing yesterday for a William Walker 1806 in Stonehouse, but have no documentation.

Really just going by what is on Margaret Walker Martin Kennedy's death certificate says of father and mother.  My mother says that no one in the family ever talked about William Walker and do not have any pics or info. I have pictures of Margaret and James Kennedy.

I want to make a trip over to go to the Mitchell Library but not sure when that will happen

"William Walker" is such a common name in Scotland, I have several in my hubby's maternal tree.  I have discovered that unless you have an absolutely definitive piece of information to go on, you will have difficulty finding him.  My conundrum is even worse, he was born in England of a William Walker and an Alice Smith...even more common!!

As William may have been born in the late 1700s or early 1800s it is not surprising that he was not mentioned in your family.
Photography was in it's infancy so unlikely that there would have been any photographs of him - perhaps he had his portrait painted but unlikely unless he was wealthy and for it to have survived would be a miracle.
Presumably you are familiar with Scotlands People? Have you checked this site for any parish records - marriages, deaths for the people you mention? Margaret's 1831 birth or baptism record perhaps?
