1853 Street name help
« on: Saturday 24 January 15 15:46 GMT (UK) »
I have a baptism entry at St Martins on 20 jun 1853 for a Joseph Gibbins son of Edward & Ann. The abode appears to read " Century Row " . Would anyone know where abouts this might be?

Where is this St Martin's of which you speak?  somewhere in Warwickshire presumably.
Rutter, Sampson, Swinerd, Head, Redman in Kent.  Others in Cheshire, Manchester, Glos/War/Worcs.
RUTTER family and Matilda Sampson's Will:

There is no Century Row listed in Slater's General & Classified Directory of Birmingham for 1852-53.

Centre Row was at 59 Inge Street

Is it Centre Row? There is no Century Row in the 1851Census Street Index. If it is Centre Row then, according to the 1851 census description, it was in the area of Hurst Street and Smallbrook Street http://maps.nls.uk/view/101584678#zoom=6&lat=1949&lon=2253&layers=BT although it is not marked on the map.

Sounds plausible. Parents from Smallbrook street and Holloway Head. Edward himself at Holloway Head and then High Street. Could well be the way it was pronounced to the vicar?

If you go to http://is.gd/eRtmin then zoom out you can see Centre Row marked, on the 1:500 Town Plan.
