Lubenham families. Harris and Tomkins
« on: Wednesday 21 January 15 19:32 GMT (UK) »

My grandmother, Elizabeth Soanes, widow, married Charles T. Tomkins around 1907. I was told they were related and would like to trace their ancestors to see if this was right. The marriage took place in Lubenham, Leics. Her maiden name was Harris and she was the daughter of Samuel and Rachael Harris.

Thanks for any help.

We are not allowed to do 1911 look ups, but that would be where to start.
If you can find Charles and Elizabeth Tomkins in 1911, it will hopefully tell you when and where both were born.
You can then look back on previous censuses (or ask here if you need help with that) to hopefully find them with their parents and siblings, and then go on from there!

Thank you. I'll do that tomorrow. They lived in Lubenham all their married life.
Your second message is correct and more children were born after that, making a total of eight children.

And I think this is Charles in 1881

Lubenham
George Tomkins 47 ag lab bn Lubenham
Emma 43 bn Manea
Archer 15
Walter 13
Charles 10
Bertram 8
George 5
Emma 3
Roland 5mths

Same in 1871, just have older son James (then 9) with them too. And of course the younger ones haven't been born!

Yes, in my first message I gave the names of her parents. She was born in Lubenham, married her first husband, Arthur Soanes, probably in London, and returned to Lubenham some time between 1902 and 1907, when Arthur, my grandfather, died.  I did know her mother was Rachael Mutton of Clipston. Sorry for the confusion.
