Possibly the photograph was taken at the same time he became a Corporal. The stripes look new!

Its not the modern Dorset Yeo badge as it was designed 80 years too late for WW1 and is a red herring.

It's the cyclists.

Revisiting this and now having access to the Ancestry Library service I have found a pension record where the service number, 36614 matches the one on his grave in NZ. Date & place of residence also match. It shows he was in the East Yorkshire regiment. Further search found he was admitted to the 51st field hospital on 31/3/1918. His number is incorrectly recorded as 36414. I do not have access to the full pension record. Is it worth subscribing to get it? Any comments gratefully appreciated.

He may have transferred from/into the East Yorks but that is not the East Yorkshire Cap badge.

The shoulder title is quite short with a slight curve - Cyclists possibly - where as the East Yorkshire had a larger curved EYORKSHIRE with a more pronounced curved shape.

Per the medal rolls (which do not show prior service in the Army Cyclist Corps for 36614 Henry G Parsons), soldiers numbered 36607 to 36613 had all served in the Army Cyclist Corps.
