Hi

I've been going through my records and I requested a lookup here for his marriage. It was a transcript but there was no mention of parents. The second marriage is post registration, so maybe I should at some point order the certificate to confirm his parents details.

Annette7, I had another look taking into account what you found and I think you might be right about his baptism so thank you very much. I just wish that his first marriage would have a certificate as Mary Daniels is my ancestor. Is there any other way to see parents in connection with the marriages?

terrac I have the death notice from the Hull Packet (Hull Packet - Friday 12 February 1869, pg 8) but I don't think I have the notice about the creditors. I do have the probate calendar though. I also have the articles about John Gravill and Thomas Duncan. I will PM you my email address.

I found the Hull Packet great, but the automatic transcription not great. I can't find any information in the papers about his separation. I have run out of my subscription, maybe I should offer to transcribe them all :)

Hi Melanie...Just out of interest...The Chairwoman... of the Carnegie Heritage Centre in Hull where I am a volunteer is a descendent of Capt. John Gravill...I believe she has a photo and also a book about him.
Carol

That is funny, I have recently (as in the last week) made contact with her, long lost cousins :)

The more I read about Captain Gravill (snr), the more I like him. I was at Hull Uni and I wish I had visited the area he lived. I have been to the Hull Maritime museum and have seen his grave, but would be good to walk down his street.

John Richardson Duncan is my great great grandfather while William Easton Duncan is my great grandfather, on my fathers side.

Hullo British Kiwi
,
Good to meet you too.

My great grandfather, William Easton Duncan was a partner in Good Flodman & Duncan, who were ship owners, forwarding agents and iron, coal and general agents with an office in the Hesslegate Building, Humber Dock St, Hull.

I live in Sydney Australia.

In 2005 I visited England and saw the Hesslegate building in Hull and visited a street party at Coltman St Hull where W E Duncan and family had lived at number 35. Their house has been replaced due to bomb damage during the Second World War.

You quote that “JR DUNCAN was a horrible person and emotionally and physically abused his second wife”. I am only thankful that my closer family members did not inherit these undesirable traits of character.

I got a lot of information about the Easton and Duncan families from an Easton living in Queensland Australia.

Cheers,
Barry.
