Tailors shop at 5 Well Street,London in 1925
« on: Friday 09 January 15 09:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi All
One of my Aunts, Elizabeth Beatrice Burt born 1903 Birmingham, found work as a Tailoress in London around 1925. She got married to a Portugese Merchant Seaman name Jose Luiz. Jose on marriage cert. gives fathers name as Rodriguez Luiz (deceased) occupation Tailor.
Elizabeth who had moved from family home in Birmingham gives address as 5 Well St,London. I have looked for this address on street view and it looks like a small shop front with rooms over the top.
Could this address have been a Tailors shop and she lived on premises. If so was the shop owner a member of the Luiz family?
Thanks
Henery  ???

Is the address Wells Street as per the topic title or Well street as per the post?

Also what area of London are we talking about?

I can't find any Luiz living in Well Street  c.1925 on the electoral rolls or in the directories.

The only Luiz I've been able to find in Hackney is Walter Thomas Luiz living in Down's Park Road in 1930

Have you looked at "Wells Street" occupants?
It may be worth a look.

Elizabeth would not have been eligible to vote until 1928.

As a foreign national, Mr Luiz may not have been eligible to vote

In 1925 5 Well Street Whitechapel appears not to have any eligible voters

However, you'll need to see if there are any street directories which may help with the rest of the property.
