"The living of Birtley, vacant by the death of the Rev. L.L. Barclay, has been offered by Canon F.H. Jackson, Rector of Chester-le-Street, to the Rev. Alec Miller Stephens, curate at St. James's Church, Hartlepool.
Mr. Stephens has been at Hartlepool since 1929. He was formerly curate at St. Mary's Cathedral, Glasgow.
A student at Edinburgh Theological College, Mr. Stephens was ordained deacon and priest by the Bishop of Glasgow."
Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette states that his induction as the Vicar of Birtley was on Wednesday 3rd October 1934.
