1841 Census lookup please
« on: Monday 04 July 05 05:08 BST (UK) »
Could someone with access to the 1841 census do a lookup for me please?

I am looking for:
Andrew Beagley b  abt 1813  in Farringdon
and
Emily Downham  b abt  1832  in Sherborne

Many thanks,
               Esther

Hi Esther

First I looked in the IGI and found Andrew Beagley, baptised 22nd June 1817 in Farringdon, son of John and Mary.
This helped as there were at least 7 Beagley families in Farringdon in 1841 (some pages were too faint to read so there may have been more!) Andrew would therefore have been 23 in 1841, rounded down to 20 in the census. This then makes more sense than an 1813 birth.

So here they are:
HO107/381-15 Page 1

John Beagley, 55, Farmer
Mary , 50
Timothy, 25, Gardener
Andrew, 20, Ag Lab
Edward, 14
Ann, 11
John, 8
William, 5

As an extra I also found in the IGI, John Beagley baptised 14th October 1781, in Farringdon, so 59 in 1841, rounded down to 55 and unusually for the IGI there is a death date 8th Feb 1849. This of course needs checking against parish records but looks hopeful! Also, (don't want to go too overboard) a marriage John Beagley to Mary Merrioitt, 27th Oct 1814. You may of course already know all this!

Hope this helps!

Stuart

Not so much success with Emily I'm afraid....couldn't find her in Sherborne.

Wow, thanks for going to so much trouble Stuart. I'm glad you mentioned the rounding down of the ages as I had forgotten that.
