Where is /was Temple Terrace, Llangyfelach Swansea?
« on: Monday 05 January 15 22:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, it seems I had ancestors living at Temple Terrace, Llangyfelach (sometimes down as Morriston)
in Swansea right up until the mid 1880s I suppose

I wonder if anyone knows where this is ? or have they been renamed or demolished?

After going through a few more pages of google I found a list of properties destroyed under the 1957 slum clearence act... A 1-17 templeton terrace Morriston was knocked down
Suppose that could be it

Hi,
I, too, had family living in Temple Terrace by the name of Gorst.  I don't know any more than that, but will let you know if I find anything else out.  Amanda

Hello and many thanks for your reply:)
I dont remeber seeing the surname Gorst as one of the near neighbours to my family but I suppose it was very possible that they must have come into contact..
Great thanks, hope you have more luck in finding information out than me

Just out of interest what sort of dates do you have your family as living there?
And what did they do as in a job as im trying to figuire out if they were always houses for the poor as they must have been for to be classed as slums?
Cheers
Griffl

Hi!  my Arthur Gorst lived at Temple Terrace on May17th 1899, to be precise!  Think it was the baptism of his son James Basil.

Hi,
It was apparently around about where McDonald's  is today, if you go to google maps and zoom in on Clase road, then Foundry rd  you'll see McDonalds, I think it was around about there.

There are probably photos of it in w Glamorgan archives, I think the street may have been cleared in the 40's or  50's sometime

You 'll find the street on the old maps https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/
Go to the Morriston area on Old maps and look for Tir-penry on the right, and you'll find Temple Terrace. It's down a bit from there and up a bit from the chapel.
The Below image is a  map that I cropped down for you to show you Temple Terrace   : (It's just a small portion of a map ,just to show you where it can be located ,so that you can find it yourself on the larger maps )

Hope that helps
Kind Regards

Hia Cell,

Thanks very much for  such an informative reply!
I was also having a look at properties built the same sort of time in that area so I'm guessing that Temple Terrace were just "Two up two down"
