Looking at a record of tenants and leases from 1847..at will ect.

1 life 2 lives. was 1 life synonymous with 21 yrs or was it an / and or situation?

2 and 3 lives leases were quite common in the 1700s and 1800s. They lasted till all the named individuals had died. So a gamble for all concerned. (Sometimes one of the lives would be royalty eg the Duke of York, based on the theory they would live a long time. Other times it would just be family members. It meant you got a fixed rent for the duration of the lease. That was obviously attractive to the tenant.)
