LF James Dickson (Dixon) Clewes - York, 1921

Happy New Year!
I have scrounged the 1921 census but cannot find my Clewes family ... can someone help?

I am looking for James Dickson (Dixon) Clewes, b.1873 in York.  He lived there with his family:
twin daughters, Agnes and Ellen b. 1913

His wife, Ellen (bl 1882) died of pneumonia in 1919.

Am hoping another pair of eyes will help me find them on the census!

hmmm .... another Clewes I can't find on the 1921 census is Harry and wife Sylvia.
They are supposed to be living at 142 Bloor St. West .

Can anyone find them?

Well, I had no luck looking for James Clewes and his daughters but I'll have a look for Harry and Sylvia.

Can you add some information on their ages, birth place etc.

Hi,

Short note in the Toronto Star - saying that 4 people died of pneumonia.  Ellen Clewes, 37 years old, address 100 Wallace avenue.  She was ill for 4 days.

HMM - just had a look in the 1921 directory.  I see Harry at 142 Bloor (mentioned in previous posts).  Ralph and William D are on Balliol... but no James. 

Will have a look in 1922.

Only Leonard, Ralph and William - on Balliol.  Again, no James.

This is a tough family to find sometimes, due to misspelling of the name.

Harry (Henry Ralph - real name) and Sylvia - Harry was b.1891, son of John and Charlotte. He died in 1946 of pneumonia.
Sylvia is Sylvia Octavia Stockton, b. 1888, dau of AA Stockton of New Brunswick

Harry and Sylvia were married 1920 in New Jersey (not sure if that's right, but it's family lore)
That in itself is odd as Sylvia was a nurse during the war and in 1918-1919 was stationed at the Brant Military Hospital in Burlington (just found this: http://freepages.military.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~sunnyann/Brant/brantnursingsisters.html

Harry was in Toronto and called to the bar in  1920 - so why they married in NJ is beyond me!!  Sylvia's father was deceased at the time of her marriage and her mother lived in Toronto!

Sylvia appears to have crossed the border to th USA in 1916 to visit her sister in New Jersey. I can't make out her sister's name. She gives her mother Amelia living at 388 Brunswick Ave in Toronto as her Canadian contact.
