Hi again,

Short death notice in the Star for James Dickson Clewes says he died in Toronto on Dec 5, 1936 and was 61.  Husband of the late Helen.  No other family mentioned.  Buried in Mount Pleasant.  Funeral home was Trull on the Danforth... so he likely  ??? lived in the East End of the City when he died.  This isn't for sure, of course.  But if he still lived in the West (Wallace Ave), he might have used a funeral home in that part of the city??

So, you might want to expand your 1921 census search to East York, as well as Toronto City??  Just a thought.

Thank you, RunKitty!
so, if no other family is mentioned  .... wonder if the twins had passed away by then?
Will see if I can get some info from Mt. Pleasant ... might be something on the headstone.

Cheers!

Nothing about any of James' children .... maybe the girls were still alive?

But ... still doesn't explain why he/they are not on the census!!

I know...

This site has 2 sons for him... no girls. ??? ???

As for the 1921 census... I still can't find my grandmother on it!!  I know exactly where she lived and who was there, but I can't find the census page for my records - no matter how I search.  For some reason, I can't find any of the neighbours or even the street (transcriptions are not fantastic!!).  So, just because you can't find them, doesn't mean they aren't there!!

Kitty
That site is my ex brother in law's and alot of the info is incorrect which is why I am tracing original documents as much as possible!

Why would a family not be on the census? are there pages of the census missing or just not digitized yet?

I think everything they had was digitised - but it wouldn't be surprising to have parts missing. Plus the 1921 census has some sections that have been transcribed very poorly.

Thanks Sami!

I have found John Alexander's birth - James and Ellen were the parents.  Shame, he died when he was 20 from a fall while skating (hit his head).  BUT, here is another Clewes who should be on the census. His name was misspelled as Clowes ....

Informant on death registration of James Dickson Clewes was his unmarried daughter Agnes of 44 Belmont Road.
