WW1 and Boer War Medals help
« on: Saturday 03 January 15 14:26 GMT (UK) »
A friend of mine has 4 medals and would dearly love to know more about the man who these were given too, and any history and if there is any surviving family that they could be returned too.  A long shot I know, but if anyone can help then this is the right place to ask.
One is a Queen Victoria medal for service in South Africa during the Boer War and it has two bars on it One reads 'Orange Free State' and the other ' Cape Colony. Around the side of the medal it says '3rd Coy 1st IMP YEO after his name Strachan
The other 3 medals are the usual trio from the first world war.
Pip, Squeak and Wilfred are the affectionate names given to the three WW1 campaign medals — The 1914 Star or 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal respectively.
The 1914 star Bears the inscription on the reverse side      Lieut G L STRACHAN.

Any advice or help please
