Did she become a RYAN? Thomas may have been around long before marriage.

have not been able to find any information, about her name, if she became a Ryan or not. there was some information on Trove about Thomas John  Ryan, mentioned 2 children one aged 14 and one aged 12 would have been good info except they had the 14 year old as a boy and the 12 year old as a girl.
Thomas John Ryan married Mary Garvin and had one more child Thomas Ryan b 5 April 1894.
have found Thomas Ryan's grand children, and have spoken to them but at this point have very little information on either Thomas John or his son Thomas. They did not even know about Maggie. My next search will be adoption records

Legal adoptions were not introduced to Vic until the late 1920's.  I think you may find it difficult to find any paper trail for an informal adoption/foster care in the 1890's.

Newspaper reports are often incorrect.  Have you definitely identified this Thomas as your person of interest?
