Elsie Waller (Born 1903) relation to Ellis Peace (Born c1877) Sheffield
« on: Tuesday 30 December 14 01:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi there - managing to do a little more research into the Waller family (my F-i-L's maternal line)  he did visit family in Todwick but we think these were cousins of his mother not siblings.  His mother Elsie was born 1903; on the 1911 census it would appear she and ?a sister Doris were residing with Ellis Spencer Peace, his wife Sarah and another young child of a very similar age, Mildred.  No other adults present so we would assume (I know that's dangerous!) that this would again be a relative of some sort.  Would be grateful for any help or suggestions as we have no-one living to ask.
Kind regards - Stefanie

Hi Stephanie

Ellis Spencer PEACE
Born 31 Oct 1876, Penistone
Chr 20 Apr 1877, Thurlstone, Yorkshire
Parents: George PEACE & Mary Ann BROOMHEAD
Married:  Sarah Ann HOUGH, 1900 Sheffield
Died: 1934, Sheffield

A familial connection to his two young WALLER visitors could come in via the PEACE , BROOMHEAD or HOUGH lines - quite a bit of researching since the connection could be at least a generation back.

Do you know the names of the girls' parents?

Cheers

Could possibly be daughters of Herbert Armitage Waller and Annie Birtles who married in Sheffield in 1897. In 1911 Annie is widowed and living with her parents. She has three children living with her - two girls in their early teens and a four year old son - but there is a convenient gap between the children  where these other two girls could fit in.

Thanks both of you - we are struggling to come up with her parents names so I will look down these lines now and see if that sheds any light.  Apparently there was some discussion about whether Elsie was adopted at some point which is probably why it's proving so difficult. Thanks again

There are possible births for both Elsie and Doris on www.freebmd.org.uk     Getting a certificate will show their parents.

Who did Elsie say was her Father on her marriage certificate?

Did your Father-in-law ever talk about his grandparents?

We've just remembered his grandfather was Walter Waller, and think there was also an uncle Walter and cousin Rodney.  Also now believe the surnamename Mycroft is connected in some way.

Thanks - Stefanie

Your father in law >
His mother, Elsie WALLER  b 1903 >
Her father, Walter WALLER

Uncle Walter, Cousin Rodney -  who were these relationships to - your F.I.L. or to Elsie?

FreeBMD has a Walter WALLER and an Ellen MYCROFT as a possible couple marrying - listed on same page Mar Qtr 1908, registered in Rotheram.

An online (paid-site) tree based on MYCROFT family says they did  marry. No details for Walter at all. But Ellen was born 1890 and age only 17 when she married.

This Walter Waller is in the right area in 1911 to be the groom:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWKP-9D2

But you need to do the full search for them - we're not allowed to do 1911 look-up or post lookups. You can post a summary of what you may find though!

Search freely here (use Advanced options, do cross reference searches)
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx?4
And here (birth places are give on the freely available results):

Full results, images - are at a price. Hopefully you can glean a good amt of info  with the free searches.

Cheers

thanks so much for your reply Ambly - I've had a bit of a breakthrough this morning (this is so addictive isn't it?!)

The Elsie from 1903 was the wrong Elsie - ours was actually born 1911, and yes Ellen Mycroft and Walter Waller were her parents so I've got a lot more information to go on now and hopefully get a bit further back.

Again many thanks :D
