SLATOR/SLEATOR, HALL Marriage, Armagh City
« on: Thursday 25 December 14 23:09 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,
My mother was a SLEATOR, b 1904 in Belfast. Her grandfather was a William James SLATER. He joined the RIC in 1867, aged 23, and the application form states he was born in Armagh. He was a servant. He was recommended by Thos. SIMPSON J.P. who lived in the townland of Ballyard. This is south of the city of Armagh on the road to Keady. I understand the person making the recommendation had to know the applicant personally, so it is possible that William may have worked for Simpson. I believe, but have no proof, that William's parents were James SLATER and Margaret HALL. They were married in 3rd Armagh Presbyterian church, c1840. I believe they lived in Maghery Kilcrany which is close to Ballyard. Does anyone recognise any of this?
Regards,
David Chambers, Co. Down.
