Try a name search on http://angloboerwar.com/. They found your man on the QSA medal roll but no confirmation of his death though.

Never mind about Santa - he can pop up anywhere as far as I am concerned!

Did Walter live anywhere close to the sea?  If not I don't think it was him as I would have thought he would have had to have had training to become a sailor.

I cannot find him on the South African Boer War grave site, but did find another site www.casus-belli.co.uk which has ten W H Webb's listed under the Roll of Honour Boer War.  Unfortunately it is a pay site.  However I wondered whether you could look down the regiments they were from and see whether any of them popped up close to Ipswich. Possibly he would have joined as a volunteer and picked the closest recruiting station!

I have checked the boerwar site again, and can still only find the initials WH Webb - no full names.  If you go onto the site at the top there is name search.  Click on that then search by surname.  Type in Webb and it will give you a whole lot of them listed alphabetically.

They did indeed, with full name as you supplied. Look on the top bar for "Name Search" which will take you to the search page. Just put in the Surname "Webb". It is a bit clunky  >:( as you have then to work your way to your man, who is on page 20 something of 37 IIRC.

alanmack are you looking for Walter Henry Webb?  Have just had another look and he is not on page 20 upwards!  I only had one glass of wine with supper and don't think it affected me that much!

By the Way he is not on the London Metropolitan Archive site.  Will now try the National archives.

Do you know when and where WH was born?  Found some references on the National archive site, but would need to have a bit more information to make sure it is the right guy.
