But unlike FindMyPast's recent offer you can't add it to your existing sub you must be a new subscriber.  :'(

I have also had an offer from Ancestry but it may just be an upgrade on a UK sub  ::)

Ancestry appear to have put the renewal/upgrade prices up because if you don't login and click subscribe, you get the original prices of £107.40 (Premium) and £155.40 (Worldwide), but someone posted on Facebook yesterday that they'd been charged £119 for Premium on an automatic renewal and when I click on my account it now says to upgrade to 12 months Worldwide (I'm currently using a worldwide trial from FTM) it will be £179.99.

When will ancestry realise that they won't get loyalty from people if they keep charging more to people who automatically renew (whether by putting up the automatic renewal prices or discounting for those who don't). ::) ::)  If I could afford to, I'd be tempted to resubscribe to worldwide at the previous amount but can't afford to at the moment.  If the new subscription prices go up to the same level, I shall be downgrading to Premium. :-\

Smudwhisk,
I had exactly the same thing with my National Geographic subscription. I can take a new sub cheaper than renewing my existing one, and I get a free jacket (again).
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Hi Pinefamily, its really annoying isn't it. :-\  The RAC are as bad, every year my renewal goes through the roof until I threaten to leave and then I get offered the same price as new members. :-X

I'm tempted to use the Premium 40% offer with ancestry and downgrade now as only have just over 2 months left on my "free" trial (for which I paid £77 anyway so was the equivalent of half the then normal price for worldwide, and I don't use FTM as a rule).  As they seem to be offering discounts around Christmas/New Year, I can then avail myself of any offer next year hopefully. ;)  I like having worldwide but am not prepared to keep paying more and more for it.  If they didn't keep offering so many cheap new subscriptions or free access, they could offer renewals at discounted prices but for some reason, as with so many other companies, they can't seem to get that into the heads. ::)

Smudwhisk,

It is the same with most companies - phones, tv, broadband, insurance, banks, no loyalty or rewards for exsisting customers, just for new ones. A friend who worked for one of the big insurance companies told me years ago never to use the same company two years running as you are far better changing to another and then returning to the original the following year as you get a much better deal.

Groom, I agree, but funny thing is BT seem to have got their head around this now, well at least if you only have phone with them.  My free weekend and evening calls was due up in November, few weeks before I was sent an offer to get a further 12 months for free (rather than having to pay £3 a month extra) which obviously I accepted.  Then my free caller ID was up at the beginning of next month and was sent an offer to get it for a further 12 months free, which not surprisingly I accepted.  The only terms were you agreed to a further 12 month contract.  Its a bit surprising for BT but perhaps the competition has made them aware that they could lose a lot of people if they don't offer "renewal" benefits.  I'm not complaining, my broadband is elsewhere and I could move my phone if I wanted when the 12 months tie in was up.  I can't get my phone much if any cheaper for phone elsewhere with the services I use.  Few companies offer the option of a completely withheld number, or if they do it's difficult to get arranged.  So I'm happy to stay with BT for now, although I won't be moving my broadband to them. :D

I've got back to 1740 and don't know whether Ancestry etc. would be any good for me now. My researches back to 1740 were mostly pre internet. I must have done thousands of miles of driving, spent thousands of hours and thousands of pounds.

No doubt I could now fill out quite a lot of information, but have no intention of subscribing to Ancestry etc. I suspect they are just commercial organisations for profit, no true interest in family history. There are quite a lot of FH Sites that are free and prosper. Just like Rootschat.
