John and Ann Newberry (or Newbery) Ashby De La Zouch and Church Langton

 Assuming that Thomas Newberry was the, presumably illegitimate, son of Ann Swingler, her parents would seem to be William Swingler and Frances/Francis Allen who married in Knighton in 1798. They had several children in Oadby - Thomas 1799, Benjamin 1802, William 1804, Benjamin 1806, James 1809, Lavenor 1812 and Joseph 1815, before the last three in Church Langton - Anne in 1817, John in 1819 and George in 1821.

 In 1851, William was in East Langton, which he gave his birth place, with Frances as Great Glen. Three sons were also in East Langton - Jospeh and James, b Oadby, who is next door to George, b East Langton.

It appears the mystery is solved. I now have to see if i can find any more about Ann Ison.

As regards Ann, and her son Thomas Swingler, I have had a look at the 1841 census and wondered where Thomas's mother, Ann Swingler was in 1841. Can anyone have a shufty for me, (I cannot see anything via Ancestry.com). I have sent for the Birth certificate for Thomas in the hope it may have the fathers name.

 I have also looked at Ann parents. I see there is a burials in Church Langton for a William Swingler (1854) and a Frances Swingler (1858), but after the 1841 census i cannot find a 1851 Census for them...another shufty please?

I can't see her either, this isn't her just to eliminate the early marriage whilst you are looking, they are together with her parents 1841

I can't be certain but she could be Ann Swindler, who is a servant living on London Road, Oadby, which is only 9 miles away. The image is much clearer in Findmypast than Ancestry. Also, Findmypast gives Swingler as a name variant.

I have just put a answer on here for people to have a look at I have been on this website for two days
If you go to google and put in Coalville times 1913
The website will come on its newspapers on whitwick ashby markfield Coalville  and ellistown ibstock I do recall reading names like newberry.it could be a idea you having a look at it .i have found my grans family on it which I'didnt know any thing about my gran died before I could speak to here about so wow ..what a find.hope you do find some thing on it on your family

Willsy pointed out an entry In the National Newspaper archive for Ann Newbery (see post 4/1/15).

I also found an entry for Ann Swingler (Wife No. 2), mother, Frances Swingler. She appears in court, in 1841, and per a  Leicestershire paper reporting the case,  it is for assaulting an Elizabeth Shaw who had a child by her husband....nice to find a bit of colour to add  to the family tree!!

Hi Eric et al....
I am very confused .. i have John and Ann (Ison ) born 1816 Church Langton on my tree... they were married in 1831 and had 11 children.. i have found the marriage entry .. staing that he is a batchelor and she a spinster.. ( although this would of meant she married around 15/16yrs old )
I have found Ann in 1881 living with some of her younger children.. age 62, meaning that she was born around the time i have for her... albeit a couple of years
i am so confused now
