Ring ancestry and say you are a loyal customer but are considering cancelling at renewal unless they can offer you a new worldwide subscription at a cheaper price than £179-99.  Would be most surprised if they don't offer something cheaper.

The issue is all my trees are on Ancestry and they have told me that if I reduce from a Global to just a UK subscription that I will not be able to see the records/data etc behind my trees.

That seems very strange as surely as long as you are a subscribing member to any part of their site you should be able to see your entire tree? Or do they mean that you would only be able to see the UK records and not anything from Australia for example?

When my subscription ran out I asked them what it meant for me, they said my tree would stay as it was, I can add stuff but not research.
I think they said they would reduce my fee from £117 to £95, I decided not to bother. :-\

From my own experience 5 months ago, it is possible to negotiate a larger discount than suggested above - I have a worldwide subscription at a cost of £119-00  ;D

There is an ancestry link for a 32% discount off 12 Months Wordlwide Membership at Ancestry.co.uk
If the full price is £179-99 then it would work out at £125-00   ;)

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01eh7/

Or a premium membership at a 31% discount -i.e. 119.99 discounted to £82-79.  ;) Same link - second box along.

Or have you thought about purchasing Family Tree Maker Platinum 2014 - 6 months premium ancestry membership - some still available on links like this for £ 38-50

No, did the same when I looked out of curiosity.  I think the discounts relate to the full annual price compared how much it would cost paying monthly.  I've seen other so-called "discount" websites doing the same thing.  I guess if someone subscribes through the link, the site gets some commission ... or perhaps I'm just a bit cynical. ;D

Easiest way would be to ring them and then you will know for certain (the records will show you have been a global customer for years) ask if they can offer you a cheaper price because you've been a loyal customer.  Its an 0800 number, the phone call is free, surely worth a shot to see what they say  ???
