John Toothill baptism at Hathersage
« on: Friday 12 December 14 21:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I was hoping someone may be able to help me with a brickwall please. One of my ancestors was John Toothill who was born circa 1742. He married in Sheffield in 1769. I am almost certain that he had a brother named Richard Toothill who married in Sheffield in the same year. They both had children and lived their lives in Sheffield. From what i can work out the two Toothill brothers look like they were from Hathersage. Richard baptized in 1741 to Richard and Rachel. My problem lies with John. There is a John baptized in Hathersage with the same parents in 1740 but he also appears in the burial register not long after. I was wondering if the couple had another John but his baptism for some reason i cannot find. From his burial record his age adds up to him being born circa 1742 so it could be possible that they had another John after having Richard.
Hope i haven't confused you.
Any help much appreciated

Thanks
Richard

See what you mean about the John baptised in early May 1742 and buried later the same month.

What about this chap though ?

I know the date is a bit out and his father is John, not Richard, but it's perhaps something to chew over ...
