Strange Item of jewellery - any ideas please
« on: Wednesday 10 December 14 14:53 GMT (UK) »
The above piece is made of none uk silver,  about 3" in depth and hinged. My friend found it among her mothers possessions and is curious to know what it is and if it has a purpose.  Her Mother came from a Russian Jewish family who arrived in the UK in about 1900.  We have no idea if the piece is connected to her origins.

Would be grateful for any ideas.

Can you show the reverse? Has it had anything attached at the rear - that may mean it contained a relic or something. What, if any, marks are there on it? At first glance it looks like a Russian Orthodox cross on a straightforward chain. I do hope that you manage to find out about it.

Wow  Malky that is amazing thank you!!   Thanks for all comment and also Carol for the link, there is one that looks almost identical.     My friend is going to be very surprised and not a little puzzled about why her mother would have one!!
